What has Science to do with God?

Cell phones, jet engines, GPS receivers, DNA tests, computers, I-pods, and innumerable other gadgets of modern life, are not in the Bible. Neither is any of the science on which modern technology is based. So what do scientific discoveries have to do with our faith in God?

Derek Pursey, Ph.D. has a doctorate in theoretical physics from the University of Glasgow. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and of the American Physical Society, and is professor emeritus of physics at Iowa State University. He taught and did research in physics at several universities on both sides of the Atlantic, completing his career at Iowa State University.  He retired in 1993 after 42 years of teaching and research, 29 of them on the ISU faculty.

Derek is an ordained elder and deacon in the Presbyterian Church (USA).  He is a founding member of the Presbyterian Association on Science, Technology and the Christian Faith (PASTCF) where he served on the Board of PASTCF from 1998 through 2007 as Secretary/Treasurer and as President.

Derek has given many presentations dealing with science and faith, including a Ghost Ranch seminar, courses at the Synod of Lakes and Prairies Synod School, courses in his home church, and talks and lectures at conferences and in churches and colleges.  He has written many articles for the PASTCF journal/newsletter SciTech†, including a quarterly “President’s Corner” column. His “Creation Story for the Third Millennium,” first published in the August 1998 SciTech†, has been a popular reprint.
